Workout Plans, Making Fitness Something I Love & Finishing What I Started

Bonjour!

Watching too much Gossip Girl is making me want to go to France.

Wow, this is my first summer with a job, and boy did I ever kill that with deciding to take classes as well. Remind me to never do that again. I am so stressed! Mostly because I procrastinate and don’t do anything, but to justify my stress, I do have an awful lot going on.

In between all of this school and work, I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting with fitness and eating. In my attempts to eat more local and soak up the deliciousness of summer, I have made quite a few farmers market trips. Right now in central Texas the tomatoes are ending, there are lots of peppers, basil, okra (which I don’t like), squashes, melons, figs and peaches. So my fruit intake has been almost entirely peaches lately.

In the fitness department, I had been in a huge HUGE rut for about 2-3 weeks since the end of June. I worked so hard all through June that my body just sort of mutinied against me. I craved junk I usually don’t and barely worked out at all. Yikes! But I’m okay with that. The toughest part was getting back into it. Last week, I tried jumping straight back into full-force workouts. Let me tell you how much¬†that failed. Also, in typical fashion, I didn’t plan my workouts so I was not motivated at all.

This week is different! I have started this Nike 10K training program, which is giving me a wonderful platform for workouts.

Today is 3 miles! Yay!

In addition to all that running and Nike Training Clubbing, I’ve been fulfilling one of my July goals and taking classes at the Ballet Austin Butler Community School, where I got a drop-in class pass last fall that I need to use. I took a Hula and Polynesian Aerobics class Monday evening and an elementary contemporary class yesterday evening! They were both wonderful classes. Honestly, I was totally intimidated and scared to try both of them. I stopped taking classes last year because I was trying to do advanced drop-in ballet and it was just too much for me not going consistently. But contemporary was amazing because I can use all my ballet skill and it’s much more laid back. I loved the music, and also all the planks and abs that we did as well! These dance classes have been perfect for what I’ve been needing lately. They make working out fun again, which I had lost a little by the end of June. You never want to do things that feel forced (i.e.: reading school-assigned novels), and working out and eating perfectly were starting to get that way for me. Dance is so joyful and something I’ve loved since long before I started running/lifting/spending time in a gym.

Another thing I’ve started again is the Strong Like Susan 30 Day Ab Challenge. I quit for a week or so, but I really feel like I need to finish for myself. Too often I start things then quit them because I over-strain myself in the beginning. This challenge is really intense and challenging. The fact that it’s 4 sets messes me up too, because I like constantly-changing workouts and hate doing the same 3 moves over and over again. So to finish it off I’m only going to shoot for 3 sets and I’m just taking it as it is! You always feel better when you finish something, so I want to get that sense of accomplishment, even if I don’t see that change I would have had I stuck to the challenge perfectly.

Here’s The Plan

Let’s start with July! I know it’s already the 9th, but I want to share my goals I made for the month.

I absolutely love her! Even after a skiing accident where she blew out her knee she still worked so hard to try and get to the London Olympics. Now, she’s working with Nike and acting as a role model to keep girls fit and healthy.

But back on track here, the point of this post is to force myself to plan! Last week I didn’t and it showed in my lack of workouts. So this week I’m prepared!

Tuesday:

The Amanda Russell Ultimate Full Body Cardio Workout

Day 4 of #30dayabchallenge is a rest day!

Wednesday:

The Amanda Russell Ultimate Hips, Bum and Thighs Workout

Modern Dance Class

Thursday: 

“Long” run (about 4 miles)

Yoga: either sweaty or flow

Friday:

HIIT run

Some sort of upper body

Saturday:

Paddleboard Yoga hopefully!
