Essential Oils

Today I’m sharing with you a little personal review of the new DoTerra essential oils I recently purchased from the lovely Rachel of HealthTruth!

Essential oils are natural oils extracted from plants… they’re nature’s remedy! As described by DoTerra, “Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. If you have ever enjoyed the gift of a rose, a walk by a field of lavender, or the smell of fresh cut mint, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. In addition to giving plants their distinctive smells, essential oils provide plants with protection against predators and disease and play a role in plant pollination.” (source)

I started out with the sample pack of Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint oils. They are all perfectly suited to my needs!

The very first oil I used was Peppermint for a stomachache. I rubbed two drops on my abdomen and about 30 minutes later I felt so much better. So far I’ve also used Peppermint to relieve a headache, help me focus while studying, and as a breath freshener. I absolutely love the stimulating scent and the cool tingling on my skin. I have a road trip coming up as well as can’t wait to use it when I’m up in the middle of night on my driving shift. My thoughts on this one are that I love the versatility in both remedy and ways in which you can “take” it (aromatically, topically, internally).

Next is the oil I’ve been using every day: Lavender. Every night, I’ve been putting a drop on my feet and pillow. The scent is so, so soothing and has been helping me fall asleep. I also used this one on mosquito bites and it helped a lot. This is another one I’d like to try on my car trip to help with motion sickness. Currently, I’m in the process of testing this one on my lips to help with dryness. The scent of Lavender is lovely and I love walking in my room to the smell.

Finally, I have Lemon. This has been my least-used. So far I’ve only put it in a green smoothie and water. It adds a delightful, true lemony taste, which for me (living in a dorm) is extremely convenient! I don’t have to cut up lemons for my water! Other than that, though, I haven’t used Lemon for anything else.

I’ve been using Tea Tree oil for quite a few years for foot fungus issues, so I’m not entirely new to the idea of essential oils. However, DoTerra has opened my eyes to the extremely broad spectrum of oils available and I can’t wait to try more! These oils are exceptionally high quality. I would highly encourage you to try out their Introduction Kit. And if you’re an essential oil believer, what are your favorite oils? Do you have any good uses for Lemon?

Thanks Rachel for introducing me to these wonderful oils!
