I Love You a Latte

In honor of the return of the glorious pumpkin spice latte and the second week of the semester, I bring you a post full of java.

I’m surely in the same position as many of my readers where I was never a big coffee drinker until college. Now I whip out my little french press daily to get me through long days of class, meetings, studying and babysitting.

I’m not any sort of coffee connoisseur but I could drink lattes allllll day and I will now take you on a latte tour of Austin, Texas!

Easy Tiger

Located at 709 E 6th Street, you walk into Easy Tiger’s bake shop on the street level, then descend into what I like to think of as their “secret” beer garden on the lower level. Cozy inside, there’s also an awesome outdoor dining area next to Waller Creek. Elizabeth and I were here one rainy morning last semester to study and we enjoyed their snack platter with some coffees. The. Best. Latte. Ever. The only question is why I haven’t been back yet. (That probably has to do with having to pay for street parking…)

If you like foamy lattes, you will LOVE Cenote! I had the foamiest latte of my life here (dramatic?) with coffee from local roaster Cuvée. Cenote has awesome outdoor seating areas and a happy blue exterior.

Houndstooth Coffee

Sandwiched between Tacodeli and Uchiko, you could spend all day in this little shopping center slice of heaven that is North Lamar (PSA: there is now also a downtown location). Houndstooth boasts delicious coffee and pastry creations (the banana chocolate chip muffin…yes) as well as adorable design (that hat) and cute baristas (yes, I am actually shameless). They also serve beer and wine and are open until 9pm most days of the week! Go read their about page; these people are serious about coffee. Houndstooth was recommended to me last fall and it took me almost a year to go. Don’t make the same mistake.

Walton’s Fancy and Staple

Y’all, I get too excited to even form sentences describing Walton’s. The latte was huge and delicious but I just have to stop and say you will have absolutely no regrets if you indulge in the fresh and fluffy Challah French Toast. If you ever make it past the deli/pastry counter, where you’ll stare at the beautiful macarons for so long you’ve forgotten you’re there for breakfast, the back wall houses the florist portion of the store. So much eye candy. You did well, Sandra Bullock.

Hi, Ashley!

Dolce Vita also has good coffee and breakfast, but I was there in June and don’t remember enough to provide any details so you’ll just have to check it out for yourself.

For any freshmen or anyone new to the Austin area, Mozart’s and Bennu are favorite UT study spaces, though I favor the mochas rather than the lattes at both of the aforementioned.

Here’s to a relaxing Sunday and a productive week full of coffee (and water, obviously, because it’s a million degrees and you need to stay hydrated)!
